Altered Social Reward Anticipation Linked to Schizophrenia and Social Anhedonia
Study Summary
This study examined the underlying neural mechanisms of social reward anticipation with 127 participants (23 schizophrenia (SCZ), 37 social anhedonia (SA), and 67 healthy controls (HC) that completed a Social Incentive Delay (SID) imaging task during MRI brain scans. Researchers found that SCZ and SA participants exhibited altered neural processing for social reward anticipation, and neural activities showed a weakened association with real-life social network characteristics.
